HOA boards serve the needs, demands and expectations of all their resident members. So, it’s important to keep in mind all residents—not just EV owners—when planning for installation of an EV charging station.
Ideally your community EV charging station should be centrally located and easily accessible for all members. The location will likely be more palatable to residents if the charging station is combined with existing parking areas (provided electrical infrastructure is available). However, because not all HOA residents will own EVs, it’s important to strike a balance between normal parking spaces and spaces reserved for EV charging.
A survey of HOA residents can help in determining the location. Once completed, the charging station should not interfere with other HOA amenities.
Your partner will also design the location and build in opportunities for growth—adding additional charging stations—as the need arises. (It will likely be much more cost effective in the long run to rough-in the sites for additional chargers than to have to essentially start from scratch to add them later.)
